Automotive Holdings Group Limited (AHE) is a diversified automotive retailing and logistics group with operations in every Australian and New Zealand. AHE has three segments: automotive retail, other logistics and property. The automotive segment has 132 dealerships franchise sites operating within the geographical areas of Australia and New Zealand. AHE's other logistical operations segment comprises AHG’s automotive parts warehousing and distribution businesses, motorcycle distribution and vehicle storage and engineering. The property segment comprises AHG’s direct property interest in land and building. On May 1, 2012, AHG acquired certain assets and liabilities of the Jeff Wignall Group. On August 1, 2012, it acquired certain business assets and liabilities of Coffey Ford, an automotive retail operation in Melbourne. On July 30, 2012, it acquired from Toll Holding Limited certain business assets and liabilities of Toll Refrigerated, a temperature sensitive freight logistic company.

Buoyant sales certainly bode well for the major car retailers. Automotive Holdings Group (ASX: AHE) has 85 passenger vehicle, truck and bus dealerships across Australia and New Zealand and is achieving record sales. Fellow retailer AP Eagers (ASX: APE) sells nearly 4% of all new cars sold in Australia through 97 dealerships. AP Eagers also owns strategic investments in MTAI Insurance, carsguide.com.au and Automotive Holdings Group. Also of note, AP Eagers has paid a dividend every year since listing on the ASX in 1957. Meanwhile four-wheel-drive manufacturer and distributor ARB Corporation (ASX: ARP) is trading near record highs as it continues to benefit from its off-shoring strategy and entry into new markets.

For car dealers Automotive Holdings Group (ASX: AHE) and AP Eagers (ASX: APE), the results should be continued good news. Rising new car sales have driven their share prices higher over the past year, comfortably overtaking the index. Over the past twelve months, Automotive Holdings’ shares are up 59% while AP Eagers is up a whopping 73% compared to the S&P / ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) rise of 19%.
